Structuring your thoughts by using charts can be an important part of the process of reentering the workplace and considering career changes. Writing out a career plan creates personal direction and focus. A written personal career plan is both a tangible and measurable outcome of the self-commitment needed to reinvent the professional you.

Exploring Alternatives
Now that you've given some thought to your career plans and conducted some research into the economic realities, write down ten industry and job description options. Once you've written your alternatives, rank each from one to ten.

Evaluating Your Choices From the previous exercise, pick out the three best alternatives to your current course of action. Determine the pros and cons for pursuing each alternative.

Planning Your Next Steps Identify the action steps you'll have to take to pursue each of the alternatives you identified in the previous exercises. For each alternative, fill in the following form.
